About Us

The Ultimate Deck Material Guide© is produced by Lions Bay Research which is located in the beautiful Howe Sound area just north of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Founder, Brian Ulrich is a mechanical engineer with a background in aerospace and high technology product development.

When Mr. Ulrich began planning a new deck for his own house, he encountered the confusing world of deck materials and spent many hours researching the right material for his climate in the Pacific Northwest.

Realizing that this research is repeated every time a homeowner builds a deck, he decided to use his technical skills to simplify the task of comparing deck materials and present the information in an easy to understand reference guide to make the task easier for others.
